A Brilliant single off of Fucked Up's magnum opus, Hidden Worlds done on two sides of a 7" à la Baiting The Public. Fucked Up pressed 300 of these in 2006 for a 2007 Euro tour with Two Snakes in English on the cover but a German lyric sheet. This one had a large hole while I think all of the later pressings had the small hole. Confusingly enough, three years later, they self-released 250 copies of this with the purplish art on the Japanese pressing and included the German translation of Two Snakes on the cover (Zwei Schlangen). 200 of these had a screenprint cover and 50 had  a paper cover. The same year, HG Fact also pressed a Japanese pressing limited to 350 copies, and Fucked Up teamed up with Εξωτικός Παροξυσμός in Greece (which was not yet a label) to self-release the Greek Two Snakes (Δύο Φίδια) on Fucked Up Records. I've had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking vinyl.

Here's a weird one. Being the mysterious guys we all know and love, Fucked Up pressed 250 copies of the Baiting the Public single with a labels that read "Epics in Minutes" and "Search for the Words" on the A-side and B-side, respectively. They then took a hundred of so of these suckas and pasted labels from the Litany 7" on them, and put them in photocopied sleeves for the Dangerous Fumes 7" prior to that 7" even coming out.

Another killer Fucked Up track, this time on a split with fake UK Oi! Legends and professional wankers Hard Skin, who perform some killer covers of The Professionals’ 1-2-3, and Blitz’ New Age. 350 of these suckers were pressed, with 50 of them in a glossy hard cover, and 300 of them in a matte fold over cover (pictured), and given out at a show in London in 2007 making this one of the harder to find FU records.

I originally thought that Fucked Up releasing a bunch of the songs from The Chemistry of Common Life was a total cash grab. In retrospect, I’m really happy they did this. The double LP version of the record sounds like garbage. Due to the length of the songs, the double LP comes off sounding super compressed, too quiet, and pretty lousy. Listening to a few select singles off this record at 45 RPM is definitely a treat. Crooked Head isn’t really one of my favourite tracks off the record, but whatever. I don’t know how many of these were pressed but it must have been like a million, because Matador put this out.

This is a very strange comp. Put out by Revelation Records, Generations is a mid-2000's brocore comp that also happens to feature Toronto darlings Fucked Up, and not-powerviolence champions, Mind Eraser. Comp also gets points for featuring a track by St. Catharines legends, Keep It Up, and I think this is their only vinyl release. Fucked Up also calls Terminal State a bunch of posers in the insert. Rude. This is limited to 550 on red, and then some on blue. I think the blue one might be rarer, as I've never come across it.

 This is where it all started. The first Fucked Up record. 1100 copies of this were done, with another 50 with photocopied sleeves, sold at one show in Ottawa. Circling The Drain is possibly my favorite FU song. The lyrics and imagery of No Pasaran mark the first paradigm of artistic radicalism in Fucked Up's imagery. These were eventually followed by the occultist and operatic phases of the band.

Schizophrenic put this out and those guys are some of the biggest record nerds I know. As a result, they went a little overboard with this release, as did I when I was finding these records. To be honest, I really hate live records, but this is one of the few I really like. Recorded at the Rivoli, it's basically Fucked Up playing their early (best) material.

First press of this record was on clear vinyl on a brown sleeve. 444 were done with a Fucked Up logo on the vinyl, and 66 were done without.











Schizophrenic then printed a rad alternate sleeve for the second pressing of the record, but the band rejected them as they looked too similar to The Endless Blockade's split with Hatred Surge. As a result, only less than 20 of these suckers exist.








The rest of the second pressing were put into sleeves resembling the first press, but on white paper instead of brown. 200 of these were printed using black ink, 150 housing some of the 400 blue/orange splits, and 50 housing a rare mispress of blue vinyl with black splatter. The rest of the 400 blue orange splits, and all of the 400 black vinyl records with blue splatter were put into sleeves printed with brown ink.

 Commonly accepted as Fucked Up's best release. This record is genius. Tracks like Crusades, Baiting The Public, and Two Snakes have some of the most unfuckwithable riffs in history. This is also where Fucked Up really started playing up the Illuminati-guy hardcore game. Think sigils everywhere. Something like a hundred of these have stamped dustsleeves, making them rare.  Go buy this record.

Probably the rawest hardcore record Fucked Up ever did, and importantly so, as Haymaker’s side of this split is revered as their magnum opus. Although the pummeling brutality that is Haymaker’s side tends to steal a bit of the spotlight, Fucked Up’s side is also excellent, particularly Black Iron Prison. This record was pressed in a large number of different colours: the first pressing consisted of 200 on white vinyl and 800 on black; the second pressing consisted of 500 on grey vinyl; the third pressing consisted of 1000 clear vinyl discs with the labels on the wrong sides; the fourth pressing was on translucent green vinyl; the fifth pressing on marbled grey/purple vinyl; and the sixth pressing on green vinyl. Fucked Up - Generation

At this point it’s pretty much impossible to fathom peace between Israel and Palestine rooted in American diplomacy. Could it be that Toronto hardcore heroes Fucked Up might have the solution to peace in the Middle East? Unlikely. Despite featuring the voices of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and the late Chairman of the PLO, Yasser Arafat, Fucked Up’s semiofficial anthem, Generation is as likely to bring about peace negotiations as Canadian PM Stephen Harper is likely to sympathize with dead Palestinian children. Generation is a three-chord wonder, a masterpiece of a mosh starter single that opens with a perfect sample buildup before its eruption. The B-sides of this track ain’t no sidewalk tracks neither. All in all, this is one of Fucked Up’s best records.


Initially pressed on a 7” with “Generation” written in red, 500 first presses exist on a 7” with a small hole, 125 of which had a Slasher Records stamp on the reverse of the sleeve. Another 1600 copies were issued of the red cover with a large hole on the 7” for the second press (pictured). The third, fourth, and fifth presses of this 7” had the “Generation” written in black with 70 copies of the 3^rd press: 30 with white labels and 40 with black labels; 460 4^th presses, and 1000 fifth presses.     

 Finally, a 12” EP was pressed of this out of 1400 copies, with less than 300 done in DJ sleeves, with a photocopied insert, and 6-7 of which had a “DJ Muthafunkaz” B-Side label.

Here's that DJ sleeve. Pretty ordinary looking. Most of these guys had a sticker but for some reason mine doesn't. Apparently this is one of the 50 that only had the photocopied insert, the remaining 250ish having both the regular glossy insert and this one.

This 7” is one of two UK twee cover singles the band did with Manno from the Dangerloves. In what might be the first exposure of their indie rock star (see Pink Eye) side, which later came to dominate the band’s sound. On this particular slab of wax, the band does two Dolly Mixtures covers, each with one version with Damian on vocals, and a better version with Manno on vocals. 500 copies of this record were pressed and sold at the Hidden World Record Release.

Kudos to Fucked Up for doing a charity single that actually goes towards legitimate causes,.100% of the proceeds of this single went towards Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, the DTES Power of Women Group, and Sisters in Spirit, all of which deal with racialized and sexualized violence against Aboriginal women in Canada. Here’s a poppier FU single with a cover of one of the dumbest songs in human history as a B-side. Bob Mould, Tegan and Sara, Andrew W.K., GZA, Yo La Tengo, Kevin Drew, and that dude from Vampire Weekend all appear on this star-studded piece of wax. 2500 copies were pressed on black with another 50 or so on green camo vinyl.
