When I think of metallic hardcore, I usually think of either the kind of guys who called me a faggot in high school lifting weights to a band on Bridge 9 Records in their room. Needless to say I’m not a big fan of metallic hardcore. Enter Countdown To Oblivion, a short-lived Toronto hardcore supergroup with one of the most star-studded lineups in TOHC history playing very metallic hardcore. The lineup consisted of Chris Colohan, who played in almost every Ontario band ever (The Swarm, Cursed, Fucked Up, Burning Love, Mature Situations, Left For Dead, Ruination, Career Suicide); Katie Whittaker who has played in Brutal Knights and Rammer as well as owning Toronto craft brew punk bar, Thirsty and Miserable; the venerable Stephe Perry of One Blood who runs Toronto’s punk radio show, Equalizing Distort on CIUT, and a member of Legion 666. I almost have more to say about the members of this band than the band itself, except that this is one of the few metallic hardcore bands that I don’t despise. This record was pressed out of 2000 copies, 400 of which were on red vinyl, 1600 on black vinyl, and 50 of which had hand-numbered blank labels and a spoof of Earth Crisis’ All Out War album, reading “All Out Gord”, and using pictures of Gord from Deranged Records on the sleeve.
